2nd Qtr Market Statistics

Sales of single-family homes in Salt Lake County in the second quarter of 2011 showed a decrease of 11.4 compared to the same quarter last year, according to the Salt Lake Board of REALTORS®.

In the most recent April through June period, there were 2,591 single-family homes sold in Salt Lake County, a decrease of 11.4 percent compared to 2,924 homes sold in the second quarter of 2010.

“While overall sales of single-family homes were down, there were a handful of cities (ZIP codes) that witnessed an increase in sales, including Holladay (up 30.8 percent); Kearns (up 8.6 percent); Mt. Olympus area (up 29.2 percent); Sandy (up 21.2 percent) and West Jordan (up 15.7 percent),” said DeAnna Dipo, President of the Salt Lake Board of REALTORS®. “Last year, the $8,000 federal home buyer tax credit was still inflating home sales which partly explains why sales were down in the second quarter.”

The median price of all single-family homes sold in Salt Lake County in the second quarter fell to $201,595, down 8.4 percent compared to a median sales price of $220,000 in the second quarter of 2010.

Condominium sales in Salt Lake County fell to 441 units sold in the second quarter, down 27.4 percent from 607 condos sold a year earlier. The median condo price fell to $143,900, down 11.6 percent from $162,750 a year ago.
